What we do

What we do

We empower people to experience the world of work.  We do this by working closely with the funding source to find the right job for the right individual. We match an individual’s skill, talent, and interest to meet the employer’s needs. Matching the right individual to the right employer will help lead to a successful, long-term employment relationship. By accomplishing this, people will better integrate into their communities, thereby empowering them and increasing their self-esteem. The intended result will allow people to manage their lives with more independence and the freedom to live, work and enjoy a valued role in society.

Work Evaluations

Assessments and Work Evaluations provide the individual with an opportunity to explore a work situation and their interest in a particular type of job. It gives Southeastern Employment Services staff the chance to complete an initial assessment of individual skills and abilities at a local business. Assessments/Work Evaluations are typically completed in one to two weeks.

Benefits to the individual include:

  • An opportunity to learn about the skills needed for success in a particular type of work
  • Payment for work done during the evaluation period
  • Assistance in learning job skills and tasks from an on-site job coach

Working Interviews

Working Interviews also provide individuals an opportunity to explore an employment opportunity without the formal interview process. This is especially valuable when interviewing may be a barrier to employment opportunities. Employers have the chance to get to know the potential employee and observe their skills and contribution to the work place. Working Interviews typically occur for one to two weeks; employers then make a hiring decision after getting to know the individual searching for a job.

  • An opportunity to learn about the skills needed for success in a particular type of work
  • Payment for work done during the evaluation period
  • Assistance in learning job skills and tasks from an on-site job coach

Job Placement

For individuals for whom traditional employment-related activities such as filling out applications, going for interviews, etc. are, in themselves, barriers to employment, SES staff will facilitate a placement in a job that meets the needs and interests of individuals who want to work. A job coach will be available to assist the individual to learn the skills and tasks of the job, to facilitate participation and integration in the work environment, and to develop relationships with their supervisor and co-workers.

Benefits to the individual include:

  • Professional assistance in obtaining employment
  • Assistance with resumes and interviews
  • Assistance with disclosure and accommodations if needed
  • On-going support if needed
  • Follow-up services

On the Job Training

On-the-Job Training (OJT) is an opportunity for the employer to mentor an individual, helping them develop the skills needed to realize their career goals. During the OJT, the individual interacts on a regular basis with employees who do not have disabilities, holds a regular position, and is paid no less than minimum wage. OJT helps people with disabilities get used to the employment environment while gaining valuable work experience. SES will help arrange an OJT and provide support and follow-up services. We will work closely with all parties to develop an OJT experience that will benefit both the individual and the employer.

Benefits to the individual include:

  • An opportunity to learn about the skills needed for success in a particular type of work
  • Payment for work done during the evaluation period
